About Rio Grande Gazette
The Resurrection of the Rio Grande Gazette
From 1990 to 2005 the Rio Grande Gazette served our valley as its local newspaper. Until we leased our La Feria IGA Super Market to Lowes in 2000 we were able to insert our weekly supermarket advertising in the Gazette and mail them together to every box holder (12,000) from Sunland Park to Mesilla.

For some 15 years, the Gazette served our valley as an all-encompassing valley newspaper including important local happenings, interesting topics, entertainment, and a section for corny jokes and crossword puzzles. The Gazette also provided businesses with a manner to advertise their products and services. But the Gazette also did not shy away from controversial issues including holding public officials accountable for their deeds or misdeeds.
Recently, a local elected official informed us that he served from a position of power. He obviously does not understand that in our system of government power ultimately does not lie in its present representatives whether it be national, state, or local government. He has not learned that the ultimate power lies in the hands of the people and that their representatives will in time be held accountable for the fiduciary responsibilities.

He was wrong in his statement, which was to hold the “Power” of government, individuals, or businesses accountable for their “actions, inactions, deeds, and misdeeds”. We keep in mind that old phrase “Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Most importantly, the Gazette strived to serve as a professional and open forum that is vital for our democratic system of government to survive. We at the Gazette are excited about resurrecting the newspaper.
