Anthony, New Mexico –During the first meeting of the year, January 3, 2024, several items were requested to be on the upcoming agenda. Agenda items include a resolution to freeze the hiring of employees, with the exception of emergency services on a limited basis, a resolution of a vote of no confidence on Mayor Murillo, an amendment to the City's Open Meetings Act, and a resolution to halt certain expenditures.
The Vote of No Confidence resolution comes after several members of the Board have lawsuits against each other. The formal resolution would establish precedence that the current City council has no confidence in Mayor Murillo's leadership The resolution reads "...the Board of Trustees of the City of Anthony concludes that continuing this path of service as Mayor of the City of Anthony is a detriment to the well-being of the City, its residents and city employees."
The Boars is set to vote on these matters at tomorrow's regular meeting, January 17, 2024, at 6:00 PM.
